Kurdistan24 : Iraq records over 2,400 daily infections, over 60 deaths
On Sunday, Iraq's Ministry of Health and Environment announced that it had detected over 2,400 positive cases of COVID-19 from the tests conducted in the past 24 hours, as it also reported more than 60 fatalities due to the disease.
Per a ministry statement, health workers had conducted 14,399 coronavirus tests during the same period, raising the total number of such tests to 1,029,159 since the start of the pandemic.

The Middle East is enduring one of its hottest summers ever, but Iraqis have had it especially tough.
In Baghdad last week, the temperature reached 52° Celsius (125° Fahrenheit), the highest figure ever measured for the capital. Basra, a southern oil hub, reached 53°C, just one degree shy of the overall heat record for the country set in 2016. While things cooled down before the weekend celebration of Eid-al-Adha, temperatures remained well above their historical averages.

ABCNews : Since October, 560 protesters, police died in rallies
Iraq’s government said Thursday that since last October when anti-government protests erupted in the country, a total of 560 protesters and members of the security forces have been killed in the violence.
The figure was reported by Hisham Daoud, an advisor to Iraq’s prime minister, at a press conference in Baghdad. He said a fact-finding committee would investigate the killings further.

The Afghan intelligence agency---the National Directorate of Security (NDS)--on Saturday said that it had killed Assadullah Orakzai, the head of intelligence for the Khorasan branch of Daesh.
The NDS told TOLOnews that the Daesh commander was killed during an operation near Jalalabad city, the center of Nangarhar province.
A statement was released by the NDS late Saturday officially confirming the death of the Daesh leader.

Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry on Saturday condemned the alleged shelling by Pakistani border forces at a busy border crossing point that left at least 15 Afghan civilians dead.
The ministry called for a serious investigation into the incident that reportedly took place in the Spin Boldak district in Kandahar on Thursday, the eve of the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha.
It said “active diplomacy can be critical to preventing such unfortunate events in the future.”

The Ministry of Public Health announced Saturday that 35 new coronavirus cases were recorded in Afghanistan.
In the past 24 hours, 35 new covid-19 cases were registered in Afghanistan bringing the total number of cases to 36,710 so far, the ministry said.
Herat, Kabul, Nangarhar, Balkh have recorded the highest number of infections.
According to the Ministry, one patient died from the virus in the past 24 hours. The total number of deaths has soared to 1,283.
